Description

Scarlet Badis / Dario Dario is a stunning, rare nano species, one of the smallest species in the world actually only reaching 0.5-0.8” in size fully grown. This fish is stunning with vertical stripes of red and in between an iridescent blue.

They are a rather shy fish at first, but in short time they become very personable and will come out immediately when they see you enter the room. The more heavily planted your aquarium is the safer they will feel and less stress when entering a new aquarium.

The Scarlet Badis is not a fish for the novice fish keeper, that does not want to put in the extra effort to meet their needs. It is essential to maintain a few live food cultures for them because they do not normally eat frozen foods, and they absolutely do not eat prepared flake or pellet foods.

Planted tanks are important as well because they will harbor lots of microfauna for the Scarlet Badis to constantly hunt between feedings.

Cultures that I feed them and have for sale are:

  • Microworms
  • Vinegar eels
  • Grindal worms
  • White worms
  • Daphnia
  • Blackworms

They are safe with adult shrimp such as Neocaridina and Caridina but will eat shrimplets.
